How did the World War I brought success to women?
Women lives during the war years changed dramatically by the war. Women played a key role in Canada's industrial achievements. They had worked in textile factories and other industries but these jobs had been kept out from women until 1915. Before the war broke out, women's roles are being housewives, mothers, and domestic workers. By late 1915, many men had gone to war which leaves no one to take care and keep the country going. About thirty thousand women stepped in to take up jobs in machine shops, metal factories, munition plants, aircraft factories, and shipyards across Canada. In all, 2400 Canadian women took jobs as nurses in military hospitals to care for Allied soldiers.
Women were taking on a stronger role in public life. They were increasingly active in fields such as social work, journalism, teaching and public health. they were pushing open doors into medicine and law and continued working or political and social reforms. women campaigned for better working conditions, improved housing, and health inspection. Women works for new laws about women's ownership.
The change in women's lives is significant because before the war broke out, women's role in society are just being house wives, taking care of children and domestic workers. And when the war occur, women's lives changed dramatically by having a more important roles in our society.
