After the report by the RCSW, several changes were launch by the government. Federal Advisory Council on the status of women was created. Trudeau’s government appointed more government jobs on women. Federal plan on Gender Equality was created by the federal government in 1955. There were many changes and achievements including: more women are entering politics, taking office as members of provincial legislatures, mayors and city councillor, numbers of female engineer, urban planners and more.
Prime Minister Kim Campbell was the first and only female Prime Minister who believed in gender rights. Political parties still haven’t found a way to address the lack of designated female politicians. There are only little upper management for women; there is also about 19% of income gap between men and women. Woman whose age is between 24-35 earns 78.3 cents for each dollar received by their male colleagues’ in 2010. Unfortunately, Canada is ranked 20th on the Global Gender Inequality Index.
